Yesterday Hez turned five months! I think I’m going to be one of those moms that throws their child an over the top six-month-old birthday party. Will you judge me? Oh well.
I wish I could tell you some fun facts like how much he weighs, or how big his head is but I don’t know any of those so you’ll just have to miss out. On a side note—raising my first baby in another country has been amazing for this mom’s heart that is so prone to struggling with comparison. Is Hez too big or too small? I have no idea. Asian babies seem to either be itty bitty or gigantic and he fits somewhere in between. Is he meeting his milestones fast enough? Again, who knows? Am I coddling him too much? Too little? Living in another country with not a whole lot of people that you know eliminates a lot of those lies that can sneak in and tell us we’re not good enough. I highly encourage all first time moms to move to another country! Just kidding. Honestly though, it has been a huge blessing in this life of mine. God has been teaching me so much about the joy, contentment and freedom that comes with just trusting him.
Hez is getting to that fun age where he’s actually funny. The best part is that when I laugh, he starts laughing too, which then just makes me laugh harder. He’s turning into a mini human and it’s so great! He’s got leg hair which makes me weirdly proud, and he’s also got this little tuft of hair right between his eyebrows. It’s blonde, so at least most people can’t tell he’s rocking a wicked unibrow. We can’t tell who he looks more like, so let us know what you think! We do both agree that he looks like his cousin’s Mason & Myles!
We still have been going to Gymboree, but they don’t let us take pictures which is such a bummer because it’s hilarious! Just imagine six babies from 2-6 months laying on blankets doing stretches, and singing songs. It’s so great. At the end they have bubble time where the instructor blows a big bubble to watch how the babies do with eye tracking and to see if they have the motor skills to try and pop it. Last week the bubble literally just landed on Hez’s hand (he didn’t move it at all to try and pop it) and the class went nuts. It was great. They thought he was a superstar.
His favorite toy is his beach ball, which he loves when we drop it on the ground (babies are weird). He also loves trips to Starbucks. Oh wait, that’s me. He’s started reaching for whatever we’re drinking, and we can’t wait to start giving him some real (baby) food. If anyone has any experience with making their own baby food you should give me all of your wisdom!

He loves to stand. It is where he is the happiest. It cracks me up because his little legs are so chunky he just looks funny.

Like seriously, look at those thigh chunk rolls!

He’s already starting to wreak some havoc (jokes). But he did somehow manage to flip his whole little play mat thing. I think he’s trying to tell us he’s ready for more sophistacated toys? Who knows.

He is super drooly and smiley. I think I can see a little white dot that maybe is going to be a tooth?

In preparation, we wanted to see what he will eventually look like with teeth.

He’s also starting to express more of his emotions…

This boy just brings so much joy. He is a blessing to us and we just feel so undeservedly lucky. He still is way more popular than I will ever be, but I’m not complaining.

Just look at that face…

Oofta, we just love this little guy (check out those little crossed feet).

Here’s my little update on Nathan and myself: We’re good. We got to go on a date night (praises for good friends who watch Hez) and found a killer pulled pork sandwich and mashed potatoes. We were going to see a movie afterwards, but ate too much so we had to go home, ha! That’s about it. Thanks for reading!
