Hez does a craft!

I don’t know if it’s the fact that I grew up with an elementary teacher as a mother, or the fact that I loved babysitting, summer camp and all things craft- but I have been looking forward to doing crafts with Hez for a long time. I’m not really sure if you can even call this a craft, but heck, it was fun and provided a little piece of artwork to hang by his crib!

Here’s what you need:

  • Paper
  • Paint
  • Masking tape
  • Ziplock Bag (big kind)

Pretty easy peasy. I could find all of the things at a local book store in SE Asia!

First, I taped Hezekiah’s name on the paper. I’m sure you could make it look a whole lot nicer if you like measured out the letters, or just made sure the letters were the same size, but whatever works!

Second, I blobbed some paint on the paper. It doesn’t have to be non-toxic or anything because you’ll cover it with a plastic bag, but if it makes your mama heart happy, go for it! I definitely plopped way to much paint, so it took quite a few days to dry…

Third, slide the paper into a big zip lock bag. I’m sure you could also wrap in Saran Wrap maybe? I actually don’t know. But I used two big ziplock bags and taped them together in the middle. Then, I taped the whole thing to hez’s high chair tray so he couldn’t pick it up and throw if off since that is his number one favorite hobby at the moment.

Ignore the belly shirt….

Then, I let him go wild. He just kind of patted around, and tried to eat the bag (thank you zip lock bags). I may or may not have helped him spread some of it around (I’m going to be that mom that does all of her kids school projects).

At the end, I just cut the ziplock bags and took out the sheet of paper (easier than just sliding it out) and let it out to dry. I realized the paint was on so thick that I couldn’t tell where the tape was, so I let it dry a little bit before taking the tape off.

Turns our I’m pretty impatient and decided to take off the tape before it was completely dry. That resulted in ripping some of the paint off by the “E”. So I ended up ruining Hez’s masterpiece with my impatience. So, don’t do that.

Anyways, it still looks decent. And it was pretty fun! And there was like zero mess at all!

You should all try it with your children, or you could just do it yourself if you want?!

Thanks for reading!
