And just like that, June is over! What a great month it has been. I figured I’d write a little update including all of the adventures that happened this last month (nothing too fancy). Updating my blog is one of my favorite things to do. It usually includes sitting at Starbucks (who would’ve guessed?) while Hez naps next to me in his stroller. The baristas at Starbs almost know my order, I can’t wait for the day when they don’t even ask. It is my favorite way to spend the morning of our rest day. The starbucks is in a brand new mall by our apartment, and at 10:00 the rest of the mall officially opens. This big, bellowing voice comes over the loud speaker announcing that the mall is open and it seriously makes me feel like I’m at Disney World or something. I also thoroughly enjoy watching people takes selfies with the flower arrangements at the mall. So many selfies.
Anyways, this month has been full of spending time with friends who are visiting for the summer, feeding Hez some real food, and continually figuring out how to raise a little human. We are settling in well to this city (4 months?!), and it is slowly beginning to feel more like home.
We have a huge window in our bedroom, and we like to sleep with the blinds open. One morning, I woke up briefly and noticed this beautiful sunrise. I sleepily woke up nathan and said “look”. He fell back asleep and I took this flawless picture with my iPhone while half asleep. I’m sure it would have looked a lot better if my eyes were open.

I have enjoyed doing more things with Hez now that he seems more like a tiny human. We made Nathan a footprinted fathers day card, and he also made a finger paint masterpiece. It was super easy and Hez didn’t get any paint on him and I think I enjoyed it way more than Him. You can read more about it here!

We have officially started solid foods with Hez! Actually I don’t know if baby purees are technically called solid foods? Anyways, Hez has tried avocado (not a fan), zucchini (not a fan), and oatmeal (not a fan). Maybe someday we will find something he likes? I feel like Martha Stewart making his food though, so that’s a win for me I guess. Baby food is expensive here! Most of it is imported, which has resulted in me tuning into my pioneer roots and creating my own masterpieces l. At least Hez is cute! His favorite part of meal time is trying to eat his bib.

In other breaking news, Hez moved up to the next Gymboree class! He is now in the 6-10 month class! Big changes people! No more laying on blankets in a circle and doing baby massages. They wanted Hez to climb up this ramp and then slide down a slide. I don’t know what other babies can do, but Hez was not having it. He cried through a good chunk of the class, but hopefully he will ease into it. He still loves bubble time though.

Gymboree does do a good job of wearing him out. He consistently falls asleep during our taxi ride home. I think it’s adorable.

We also celebrated the 4th of July! We had some friends over, made some burgers and splurged and bought some doritos. Doritos have never tasted so good. We played apples to apples and didn’t take one single picture (besides the doritos—you know, priorities). We even squeezed Hez into a 0-3 month onesie that said “Made in America”. What a night!

This next month is full of saying goodbye to our friends that were visiting this summer, complete with a trip to a local beach. We got a little beach tent for Hez that may or may not have taken us 30 mintues or more to figure out how to put away. Stay tuned to see if we get more efficient, and to see how much stuff we pack for a one night stay at the beach (babies require a lot of stuff, okay!?). If you have any tips on how to not have your baby eat sand, let me know.
If you want to get more updates about what we are doing while we are here in SE Asia, shoot us an email at nadepenning@gmail.com (I promise we don’t just eat doritos and take Hez to Gymboree).
