We made it!

We successfully traveled across the world, seven week old baby in tow.

Nathan making a typical ‘Nathan face’, and me wearing my nursing cover always because airplanes are cold and I suck and planning what to wear. Oh yeah, and Hezekiah being wonderful because he is the best little travel babe.

I would be lying if I were to tell you I was not jet-lagged (maybe three hours of sleep in the last two days), but I am so happy to be in our new home for the next couple of years. I am still unsure of the date and time… time zones are weird.

However, despite the sleepiness, we count it all joy! One, because God is good (most importantly) and two, because I have quite the obsession with airplanes. Not the structure, or the engineering. But I am seriously obsessed with the experience of flying. Guys- it is so great. If you haven’t traveled on an international flight, you better hop on an airplane quick because it is down right wonderful.

Our first flight was delayed, which was a bummer. There was a legitimate blizzard outside, white out conditions and all. We only had a two hour layover for our next flight, and with the delay we were cutting it kind of close. Thankfully, this sweet little lady met us at our gate to lead us over to the flight they had already rescheduled us for. She was by far the fastest power-walker I have ever seen (even in heels) and we attempted to keep up with a baby and 23907 carry ons in tow. Since it was a different flight than the original, we had to get new boarding passes. Thankfully we were able to get a full row to ourselves, despite me trying to talk to the people while embarrassingly out of breath since we just power-walked through the labyrinth that is the DFW airport.

Anyways, we boarded and all was well. Reason number one why I love airplanes- they give you a little bag on each seat with a cute little pillow and blanket. I choose to ignore the fact that the fancy business class humans get things like slippers and eye masks and FULLY RECLINING SEATS. It’s okay, i’m not jealous at all.

Anyways, we got settled and browsed through the movies. Guys, American Airlines is no joke. They have a better selection than Netflix. I mean they had six different mission impossible movies, not that I watched any of them, but six!

Side note: On every international flight I go on, I make a mental list of all the movies I want to watch and then prioritize them. However, I somehow always end up just watching Disney movies I’ve seen many, many times. Specifically Moana. I’m not sure why, it just happens. One flight I watched it three times. I thought this flight would be different, but nope, it made the viewing list.

Reason number two why I love airplanes- the massive amounts of food they feed you. I can be completely unsure of what time is it, but I can rest assured that they will be bringing out a meal soon. Some people say the food is gross, I say its adventurous. I may or may not have had to watch the Japanese man next to me to see how he ate some of the food. I did not try to eat the salad with the chopsticks like he did though. I will humbly admit my necessity for a fork. Also- the never ending beverages. Many diet cokes makes for a very happy Ana.

We made it to our second layover, but since our first flight was delayed we missed the final flight too. Thankfully they had another escort for us where we basically sprinted through the airport again, all to end up at the gate with an hour (!) to spare. We tried to figure out our luggage situation, but since we gate checked our stroller and carseat it just added for more confusion.

Our last flight was only about half full, which was nice because we were able to move up to a row that had the capability to put a little bassinet for Hezekiah. He was thrilled to not be so scrunched in our arms, and we were thrilled to give our arms a little break. The flight attendants loved him, and even gave him a little inflatable airplane toy. You know, because two-month-olds love inflatable airplane toys.

Anyways, we made it to our new home with little sleep and zero luggage, but we are so thankful and happy to just be here. What an adventure. Today has been all about learning how to pay rent, exploring the area and tonight we are going to go to the street food market. I’m in heaven. Feed me all the street food and I may forget about the fact that all of our belongings are somewhere between Dallas and Japan.

We are thrilled, tired, and about every other emotion you could feel. Here are some pictures (because I know most of you are probably just reading to see pictures of Hez).

Little adventure babe.

Basically how Hez spent the total of 26 hours flying.

Ignore my low-quality photographer skills and the up-the-nose angel, but what an angel baby.

Here’s how we spent our travel time. Check out Nathan’s neat little travel pillow. Looks pretty goofy, but works pretty well.

Seriously, what an angel baby. Just plopped down in an empty seat.

Japan is awesome. I love their toilets. Check out the little “privacy” option.

Cute, right?

Here’s the little bassinet they let us use. If you ever travel with a baby, I highly recommend you ask if they have one for your flight!

I love airplane food. I probably love it too much. Also, sorry I haven’t quite figured out how to rotate photos. One day, one day.

Nathan thought Hezekiah needed a little back massage after such a long travel day.

Since our luggage got lost, Nathan’s rocking the chaco’s and sweats. Fashionable.
